Sommersprosse Ouiska Chitto

Ouiska Chitto is from the Choctaw Indian language.  The original spelling was "uski" (cane) and "chito" (large).  Ouiska Chitto literally means "Big Cane" -- quite probably for the sugar cane plantations that were common along that river.  Ouiska is actually pronounced "Whiskey"; Ouiska River (aka Ouiska Chitto River; Whiskey River; and/or Whiskey Chitto River) runs through central and southwestern Louisiana -- mainly Allen Parish.  See the links below for more information about the Ouiska Chitto/River.
