Brucellosis Canine brucellosis is a venereal disease that is passed on via direct contact, usually during mating. It can cause sterility, premature abortions in the bitch, and/or death. Before doing any breeding, both the stud dog and the brood bitch should be tested for brucellosis. Only dogs/bitches that are free of this disease should be bred.
