Adoption Policies
1. Adoption fee is $200, payable to DALSAVERS -- a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Upon request, a receipt will be provided to you for tax purposes. 2. All pets are placed already spayed/neutered. No exceptions. Puppies can be altered as young as 8 weeks. Although most people prefer to wait until the puppy is at least 6 months old -- the risk of an accidental breeding outweighs other potential risks. 3. No dog will be adopted out without a completed application, vet reference, and home visit. The application can be found here. Other requirements may also be appropriate depending on the situation. 4. An adoption contract must be signed by both adopter and adoptee. This contract spells out the guidelines for proper care, feeding, training, vet care, and other topics. This contract also requires that a puppy/dog adopted from Sitting Spots must be returned to Sitting Spots if for any reason the adopter cannot/will not keep the puppy/dog. 5. All puppies/dogs will go home with an informational packet covering recommended training methods; vaccinations and schedules; foods (and how to choose appropriate diets); other topics; a 2-week supply of food; collar and identification tags; and other items. This information packet is also available free of charge to anyone who requests it. Send me an email requesting this packet, and include your name and snail mail address. Please allow 2 weeks for delivery. 6. All puppies/dogs will be either microchipped and/or tattooed prior to adoption. The chip and/or tattoo will be registered with either AKC's Home Again program or with AVID, depending on the type of identification. Sitting Spots retains the right to remain on the chip/tattoo registration as a secondary contact in the event the puppy/dog is lost or stolen and later recovered. 7. Sitting Spots rescue is available 24/7 for advice and support to those who adopt from/through us. Please don't hesitate to call or email if you have a question or need help.
